He prays with open eyes, staring at dead grass and concrete.
“God, I’m done.” He says.. “ This is insane..I’m just not feelin it anymore. Where are you, anyways?”

“Oh..” He laughs “..Then I’m fucked huh?”
“Maybe..”
Disappointed, he rises from his knees. Concentrated blunt smoke seeps from the rattling windows of passing cars. He begins his journey.
One step.
Two steps.
Three steps.
His arms shoot out before him as he hits the ground. The woman on the sidewalk smiles.
“I tripped you.” She says..
“Thanks.” His reply..
“What’s your name?”
He sings into her ear, whispering words he still couldn’t scream...
“...My name ...is Love.”
She rolls her eyes.. “Fuck outta here.”
“I know..” He says as he dusts himself off “..It aint fair, is it?”
She hurdles to her feet.
“So you’re back AGAIN are you?...well I don’t need you anymore..”
“Actually, you do sweetheart.. sorry to dissapoint you..”
“You can’t promise me anything!” She says..
“Look. You think I wanted to come back? .. This wasn’t my choice. But my name is Love...and now I’m here. Simple as that.”
She holds fast to her tears, but they steal away just the same..
“My name ...” she slowly admits “..is Grace..”
He smiles.. “That’s dope.”
“I hope not...” She sniffs “..Cuz there sure aint enough of me to overdose on.”
“There will be..” He replies “..I promise.”
He climbs slowly to his feet, taking her in as he rises. She crumbles to the sidewalk, and he follows in an instant- landing inside of her soul. They sprawl together against the city sidewalk.
Looking at him, her smile fades.
“Where WERE you going anyway?”
“Where are WE going” He corrects.. “..and the answer is back”
“..back where?”
“...where the pain is..” he replies
“Of course..” She laughs, shaking her head “we’re fucked.”
He smirks.. “Maybe.”
Grabbing hands hesitantly, they stand once more.
Whispering prayers as they carefully walk towards the Sun.
